Academic Enrichment Fund

Academic Enrichment Fund is a need-based fund that helps union members’ with the costs of supplemental academic activities for the children ages 5 to 18. This includes activities such as tutoring, summer classes, SAT prep courses, and college application fees.

Childcare Fund

The Childcare Fund is a need-based fund that helps HUCTW members with the costs of childcare incurred during the calendar year. The types of childcare that are eligible include: daycare, in-home care, after-school programs, summer camps, pre-school, and public kindergarten (not private).

Education Fund

The Education Fund assists members with their educational and career development needs, helping to address those needs, as well increasing the opportunities for HUCTW staff to pursue further education. The program primarily covers courses not eligible for reimbursement under the University’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and Tuition Reimbursement Program (TRP). Applicants may apply for assistance with one course or conference per semester.

Housing Loan Programs

The Housing Loan Programs are three 0% interest loan programs, which help members with housing costs, for renters and home owners. The programs are through the Harvard University Employee Credit Union and they include a rental transition loan for first and last month’s rent or moving expenses, a home owner moving expense loan, and a home emergency loan.

TAP Tax Fund

HUCTW negotiated the  TAP Tax Reimbursement Fund with Harvard in order to help our members recoup a significant portion of the tax cost from non job-related, graduate-level classes taken using the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). Members who take two or more such classes during the 2023 calendar year may have between $1,000 – $12,000 in taxes withheld from their paychecks due to the University’s  TAP Tax Policy. Awards will be based on each applicant’s tax costs and the total number of applications we receive.

Transportation Fund

This Harvard-HUCTW Transportation Fund provides assistance with significant commuting and/or parking costs and attempts to equalize commuting costs among members in different areas of the University. It is a reimbursement program, which members may apply to twice a year.

Student Loan Refinancing

The Student Loan Refinancing program, a collaboration with the Harvard University Employee Credit Union (HUECU), assists members who qualify with refinancing their federal and private student loans through the HUECU.  The program may help members lower their payments, reduce their interest rates, or consolidate their loans into one monthly bill.
