HUCTW 2023 Winter Newsletter

Please click here to view the HUCTW 2023 Winter Newsletter, which highlights our current negotiations around Harvard’s dental insurance change (also described briefly below), positive new changes for HUCTW commuter rail users, upcoming events and deadlines, and instructions for time reporting for those who work over the Winter Recess. As many of you know, last year Harvard switched dental insurance coverage for all staff from Delta Dental to MetLife. This switch has led to meaningful disruption for a significant number of members. The most common disruption: affected members indicate their preferred dentist does not accept MetLife coverage and therefore those members have either had to switch to a new dental provider or start paying significantly more for their dental care.We have been meeting with University leaders about the dental insurance change and we are committed to continuing discussions until a solution can be found that addresses the provider/cost issues appropriately so that members can continue to receive affordable care from dentists they trust. You can read more about these discussions in the newsletter and we will update members as soon as there are concrete developments to share.

Membership meeting: There will be a membership meeting on Wednesday, December 11 at 12:30. It will take place in the Armenise 125 (D) Amphitheater in the Armenise Building at 210 Longwood Ave, HMS. At the meeting, there will be year-end reports from the HUCTW officers and from internal and joint union/university committees, as well as other HUCTW updates. There will also be time for member questions/discussion. If you are coming from the Cambridge-area, there is a Cambridge-Longwood shuttle to Longwood, which takes 15 minutes, and lets off right across the street from 210 Longwood (Armenise Building): https://www.longwoodcollective.org/m2-cambridge-boston. The number 47 bus (Louis Pasteur/Longwood Ave stop) and the MBTA Green Line (Longwood stop) also drop off in the Longwood area.
