Important Dates & Deadlines

We have two important upcoming deadlines/dates you may want to make note of:

(1) The Childcare Fund and the Academic Enrichment Fund applications are posted on the HUCTW website, and the deadline for both applications is September 30. Details are below.

(2) Monday, Sept. 1 is Boston’s first ever Labor Day Parade, where we will join millions of people nationwide to stand up for workers in the face of authoritarian attacks on September 1. Details on the Boston parade and other nationwide Labor Day events are below.

Childcare Fund

The Childcare Fund is a need-based fund that helps HUCTW members with the costs of childcare for children ages 0–12 (and ages 13–18 for children with eligible special needs) incurred during the calendar year. Eligible types of childcare include daycare, in-home care, after-school programs, summer camps, preschool, and public kindergarten. Applications for the CY2026 Childcare Fund—which will assist with childcare costs incurred between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026—are now being accepted. Deadline: September 30

Academic Enrichment Fund

The Academic Enrichment Fund is a need-based fund that helps union members with the costs of supplemental academic activities for their children, ages 5 to 18. This includes activities such as tutoring, summer classes, SAT prep courses, and college application fees (but not tuition). Each award period covers September 1 of the previous year through August 31 of the current year (a year’s worth of expenses), so you are being reimbursed for costs that have already occurred. Applications for the 2024–2025 award period are now being accepted. Deadline: September 30

Labor Day Parade and Events: September 1

This Monday, September 1, is Labor Day—a holiday to celebrate the achievements, honor the sacrifices, and recognize the enduring struggles of working people and the U.S. labor movement. This Labor Day, nearly 1,000 events will take place nationwide to stand up against authoritarian attacks on working people, our healthcare, our jobs, and our freedoms, while celebrating “Workers over Billionaires.”

In Boston, the city will host its first-ever Labor Day parade, starting at 9:30 am at the State House and marching to Boston City Hall. There will be speakers (including Mayor Wu and Governor Healey), live music performances (including brass bands featuring HUCTW members), and food trucks at City Hall until 11:30 am. There will also be similar events, rallies, and parades happening nationwide.
