Statement of Support Delivered to Harvard Leaders

On October 24, 2022, the HUCTW Officers and Executive Board sent the Statement of Support for a Fair Raise to 65 senior University leaders (including the deans of all 15 Harvard schools, the EVP, and other key decision-makers). The Statement was signed by more than 3,500 members of our union and more than 800 friends in Harvard the community. Negotiations Update: Pay Challenges Continue

Negotiations between HUCTW and management representatives on a new Agreement are continuing weekly. Our talks on the subject of pay increases continue to be very difficult and HUCTW negotiators are continuing to press management representatives on the importance of pay increases that keep pace with inflation. HUCTW Visibility Events

Thank you to all HUCTW members and Harvard community friends for the fantastic turnout at HUCTW’s visibility events to support a strong pay raise program from Sept 19 – 29. More than 1,000 members (as well as friends from campus unions, non-union staff, students, and faculty!) came out to our visibility events across campus to let Harvard know we are united in our fight for strong contract with raises that allow us to keep up with inflation. Negotiations Update: Visibility

HUCTW leaders have been in negotiations since late spring and we want to update you on what’s been happening at the negotiating table lately. Discussions have been progressing at a steady pace, however we anticipate challenges ahead, particularly in the area of pay increases. Our Union will need strong, broad-based, visible support from our members to help push through those challenges. We’ll be inviting you to take part in some visibility activities to support contract negotiations around campus soon, but in the meantime one easy way that you can show your support for HUCTW negotiations is by putting up HUCTW posters and Zoom backgrounds in your workspace.…

HUSPMGU to Merge with HUCTW

You may recall that earlier this year HUCTW asked for your support in our efforts to bring members of the Harvard University Security, Parking, and Museum Guards Union (HUSPMGU) into our union. The negotiation process with the University around this goal was long and difficult, but we're extremely pleased to announce that we were able to reach an agreement with Harvard on the merger. In recent weeks the members of HUSPMGU voted and ratified that agreement to join HUCTW. This group of approximately 80 members has been striving to become HUCTW members for over six years and that goal will become a reality as of October 1 this year. …

Negotiations Update: Inflation

As our negotiations get started this month, one extremely important factor in the talks is our 40-year high inflation rates. With this in mind, the University and the Union asked Harvard economists, Jason Furman and Lawrence Katz, to share their insights and forecasts around price inflation, wage growth in the U.S., and the U.S. labor market in a presentation to HUCTW and Harvard negotiators and leaders earlier this month. Our 2022 Contract Negotiations

Our current Agreement with Harvard has a one-year term and is set to expire on September 30, 2022. This means we need to begin planning our next round of contract negotiations with the University now in order to have a new Agreement in place by October 1. Negotiating a contract that will determine our salary increases, enhancements in programs and benefits, and other key policies for the next several years is an exciting prospect, but it is also a challenging one that will require significant participation from HUCTW members to achieve the best contract possible. …

Support Our Sister Union: HUSPMGU

Please sign our petition to support economic fairness and HUCTW inclusion for museum and parking staff in our sister union, HUSPMGU! HUSPMGU represents about 80 members who work as Harvard museum and parking attendants. They work alongside HUCTW members everyday, and yet their pay and benefits are substandard. For 5+ years HUSPMGU has actively sought to become part of HUCTW in order to bolster their pay, benefits, and bargaining strength. Harvard administrators have repeatedly resisted proposed plans for a merger and the situation is growing serious. …
