Salary Increase Timing & COVID Sick Day Usage
We want to update you on the timing of our 2021 HUCTW salary increase and bonus, as well as provide instructions and deadlines for two other new benefits that are part of our 2021 one-year contract, including (1) COVID sick days—which can be used for vaccine or booster shot recovery, COVID-19 recovery, and COVID-19 quarantine for you and any eligible family members—and (2) the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Tax Reimbursement Program to help members with the cost of taxes on non-job-related graduate-level Harvard classes.
Salary Program Timing
Salary Increase to be Delivered December 3:
Members will start being paid at the higher pay rate of pay in the Friday, December 3 paycheck (this check covers the two week pay period that begins with November 14). The retroactive portion of the raise will also appear in the December 3 paycheck. This retroactive portion of the raise is a one-time, lump-sum payment equivalent to the raise applied to your regular pay for the period between October 1, 2021 to the November 13, 2021. You can see the full details of the salary program in the 2021 Agreement.
Bonus to be Delivered December 17:
Members will see the one-time, lump-sum bonus delivered in the Friday, December 17 paycheck. Again, you can see the full details of the salary program in the 2021 Agreement.
COVID Sick Day Usage
Five Extra HUCTW COVID Sick Days for Use April 1, 2020 – May 27, 2021:
During our recent contract negotiations, HUCTW negotiated five additional COVID sick days that members can use to retroactively recoup regular sick days that they used for COVID-related absences between April 1, 2020 and May 27, 2021. These can be used for: vaccine recovery, COVID-19 recovery, and COVID-19-related quarantine for you or your family members. To use these five days, members should fill out this form and get their manager or HR rep to sign it, and then return it to a PeopleSoft approver/adjuster in their local HR office. Form Deadline: January 31, 2022.
Five State-Mandated COVID Sick Days for Use May 28, 2021 – April 1, 2022:
The five days above are in addition to the five COVID-19 sick days Harvard recently made available to all staff as required by state law for the time period between May 28, 2021 and April 1, 2022. These state-mandated days can be used for vaccine or booster recovery, COVID-19 recovery, and COVID-19-related quarantine for you or your family members. To use these days, you should follow the instructions at the bottom of this page on HARVie.
TAP Tax Reimbursement Program
TAP Tax Reimbursement Program for Summer & Fall 2021 Semesters
This program was negotiated by HUCTW as part of our recent contract negotiations in order to help our members recoup a significant portion of the taxes applied to non job-related, graduate-level classes taken using Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). Members who took two or more such classes during the 2021 calendar year may have had between $1,000 – $12,000 in taxes withheld from their paychecks due the University’s new TAP Tax Policy for classes taken for graduate credit.
If you took one or more non-job-related graduate courses at Harvard during the summer 2021 and/or fall 2021 semesters, this program will provide partial reimbursement for any taxes that Harvard withheld from your paychecks related to those classes. If you have eligible tax expenses in summer or fall or this year you can learn more and apply here. Application Deadline: December 3, 2021
