Unpaid Leaves of Absence


HUCTW members who want to take extended time away from work can use paid vacation time, but they can also arrange to take an unpaid leave of absence. Once you have passed your 90 day orientation and review period, you are eligible to take a short term unpaid personal leave of 30 - 90 days. Once you have worked at Harvard for five years, you can negotiate a long term leave of absence of 90 days - one year. This program was negotiated by Harvard and HUCTW to help HUCTW members with the costs of copayments for doctor’s visits, hospital visits, ER visits, and high tech imaging appointments (MRIs and CAT scans). The Tentative Agreement for a new Harvard-HUCTW contract includes three years of salary increases. The Union has prepared a downloadable Excel Salary Increase Calculator so that you can calculate your salary increase for 2018. In order calculate your 2018 raise, you will need to fill in the four blue fields in at the top of the Calculator, indicating your current annual salary, salary grade, hours in your regular weekly schedule, and approximate length of service.…

HUCTW leaders are happy to announce that Union and University negotiators have reached a tentative agreement for a new three-year contract, covering the period between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2021. We have provided a brief summary of key aspects of the agreement below, and will send a full, detailed summary of all changes soon. Harvard and HUCTW have also released the following joint statement. There will be a ratification vote on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
